His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday graced the prize presentation for the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2009 held at the Empire Hotel and Country Club Indera Kayangan Ballroom.

HRH also officiated the opening of the two-day CIPTA 2009 Showcase, which will conclude today. The event hopes to inspire the public to get involved in devising creative ideas that will benefit society.

The Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2009 is a competition for creative, innovative products and technological advancements. This year it comprised two categories: Category I - Creating a new product, process and technology, and, Category II - Modify an existing product, process and technology. Sixteen projects were entered this year, with eight per category.

The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2009 winners.

Associate Professor Francis M J Nickols, Pg Dr Mohd Iskandar Pg Hj Petra and Mirhassan bin Hj Matussin won the hearts of the panel of judges with their invention, the Autonomous Robot Training Kit, earning themselves first place in Category I, and taking home $6,000 and a trophy.
Dr A R M Muniruzzaman, Muhd Khairy Missalnizam Hj Khamis and Noor Kamaliah Hj Kamis won second place, $4,000 and a trophy for their 'Design of a Structural Testing Frame.'
Third place winners Ahmadiah bin Hj Suhaili, Ton Kennedy and Rolly Veando walked away with $2,000 and a trophy for their Smart Tool invention.

Meanwhile, in Category II, Hj Ja'afar bin Awg Besar, Azmi bin Hj Ja'afar and Hjh Haslina binti Hj Ja'afar took first place with their Double Trap invention, earning themselves $6,000 and a trophy.

In second place was Mohd Adib bin Norhalim, who devised the Tele-safe Home Security System.
Taking third place were Jeffery Yong Tzyy Shann, Yip Chee Siang and Chong Lee Ting for their 12-inch Portable Pneumatic Ventilator.
